Wine Review – Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner Wachau Terraces 2016

Don’t be put off by the thought of drinking Austrian wine, whilst very much under-represented in the UK market this is a region where you can really get value for money as a recent trip to my local LIDL proves…

Very much the signature variety of Austria, the key characteristics of the grape are very much in evidence here: on the nose there are obvious vegetal aromas (think celery), white pepper notes alongside fresh citrus and green apple with a touch of honey.  On the palate, this is a fresh and vibrant wine which has a lovely streak of minerality (a feature of the Wachau soils) running through it, the fruit is clean and precise and there is a notable presence of mouth-watering acidity.  A lovely little wine perfect for oysters or simple fish or white meat dishes.

Currently available for £8.49 at LIDL – this is an absolute steal
